My health journey wasn’t always so healthy, but it began in earnest when I wanted to start a family and then kicked into another gear when I found out I was having triplets. They were counting on me for literally everything, and I was determined not to let them down. Throughout their lives, I’ve tried to encourage them to eat good things, make sure they were active, and develop good habits. It wasn’t until later in life that I decided to really dive into health and wellness to alleviate symptoms of perimenopause, lose weight, and find ways to live life to its fullest. The results of the changes I made were astounding. It became my passion and I love learning all I can about it.
Now that our kids are a little older, my husband and I are enjoying more “us” time and enjoy hiking, watching the wildlife in our back yard, and planning our next road trip. We even bought an inflatable kayak and have a blast bringing it to local lakes. (Sooo portable!!!) When I’m in need of some quiet “soft-focus” time, I meditate, journal, and crochet. (I’m an afghan-aholic.) I like a lot of things, actually: music, writing, and photography to name a few. And I do them whenever I can. They make me happy. I’ve discovered a new hobby too: designing and making japa malas (meditation necklaces). We’ll see where that goes . . .
Because of my experiences, I have fully adopted the belief that well-being is truly about feeding every part of me: my body, my mind, my soul. I’m not perfect. I still struggle. (Yes, I’m still working on my ‘meno-paunch’!) But I’ve learned to give myself a bit of grace and move forward. We are not in control of everything, but we do have choices. And, believe it or not, the road to good health doesn’t need to be a major shift in everything we eat or do in order to make a difference in how we feel. We can take small steps that we know we can do and adjust as we go. I’m living proof.
And yes, all the pictures you see on this site are mine. 🙂
